NEW HOME HEALTH ASSESSMENT PILOT LAUNCHED ON HOPI RESERVATION

During the first week of February 2016, Red Feather, with financial support from the Center for American Indian Resilience (CAIR), initiated a Home Health Assessment Training Pilot Program with the Hopi Community Health Department.  In partnership with Northern Arizona University, Red Feather developed a home health assessment program based on best practices.   Research indicates that when families get sick, the foundation for improving their health is built by improving their housing conditions.   Families that participate in the program will receive a comprehensive home health assessment, health education training, and a healthy home kit with materials and information that permit homeowners to take actionable steps toward creating a healthier living environment.     Red Feather expects to serve over 23 families in 2016 through this pilot.  Click here to learn more about the research and the Center for American Indian Resilience.

PROJECT DETAILS

Developed a comprehensive Healthy Home Assessment survey to be used during community health visits. Trained Health Professionals and cultural insiders versed in cultural etiquette will assess 23 homes and explain the items in the Home Kit while helping to identify home conditions that may be contributing to family health issues.

TIME FRAME

One year.  Northern Arizona University and the Hopi Community Health and Human Services Department begun in June 2015.  CHR training piloted in February 2016 on the reservation.  Implementation will continue through 2016
