2010 Volunteer Opportunities
We are pleased to announce Red Feather’s 2010 Volunteer Opportunities! You are warmly invited to join us along side tribal volunteers in building a straw-bale home for a native family. We will spend May 29 - June 26, 2010 on the Northern Cheyenne reservation in eastern Montana, and August 28 - September 25, 2010 on the Hopi reservation in northeastern Arizona.
While our work goes on throughout the year, the builds are truly the heart of what Red Feather does. They are extraordinary opportunities to build new friendships, to foster an exchange of ideas and cultures, and to forge the partnerships that will support the foundation of sustainable solutions to the housing crisis that confronts far too many native families living within reservation communities. While we cannot guarantee the weather, we surely can guarantee that you will return home with a sense of personal satisfaction, a toolbox of skills you might never have imagined yourself possessing, deep friendships, extraordinary memories, and an enriching understanding of different cultures.
Please click here, for the step by step application process, and click here for more details on the volunteer experience. If you do not have the ability to downloand and/or print the on-line application, please call us at 406-585-7188, and we will be happy to send you an application via USPS.
Because our goal is to foster tribal knowledge and sustainability, we must strictly limit the number of volunteers we can invite from off the reservation. It has been our experience that too large a group of off-reservation volunteers tends to inhibit local participation. As much as we would like to give everyone an opportunity to participate, we ask that you respect this restriction. Please honor this request, and our mission, by following the application process, and by not showing up at the project to participate if you have not been accepted. Please see more information on the volunteer page.
If you are unable to join us on the builds, please consider joining us in spirit by supporting the construction of new and sustainable homes for native families with a donation to Red Feather. Your donation helps support Red Feather’s continuing efforts to empower our partner communities to find sustainable solutions to their housing needs in a self-sufficient manner.
