Volunteer Application Process

APPLICATION DEADLINES - NORTHERN CHEYENNE BUILD (3/15/10); HOPI BUILD (4/30/2010)

New Volunteers

There are certain details that you should take into consideration before attending a Red Feather Development Group construction project:

Our projects can experience extreme weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from very hot and dry (100° F) to cold and damp (30° F).

During our projects, everything from sleeping and eating to showering is most likely done in the great outdoors.

The construction work itself is at times very strenuous and not without risk. However, we take every precaution to make our projects safe and secure for all our volunteers.

An adult must accompany volunteers between the ages of 10 and 17. Because of liability issues, children under 10 years of age are not allowed to attend.

Volunteer participation in Red Feather construction projects is limited to one week. To cover meals and camp facilities during the project, a volunteer fee of $250 per person is required. For students and seniors, the fee is $200. For registered tribal members, the volunteer fee is waived.

All volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to and from our project site (For your convenience, Red Feather will provide ride-share information to all accepted applicants).

Application Process

  • Volunteer opportunities are only available to members of Red Feather. To join, please make a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more on our website, by mail, or by contacting our office at (406) 585-7188. Once you become a member, please complete a New Volunteer Application.
  • Red Feather staff will review applications and respond to all applicants.  Due to the high volunteer interest in our projects and limited space, we cannot accept every applicant or desired duration of participation.  Accepted applicants will receive an informational packet that includes individual expectations, and a list of recommended items to bring to the build (tools, clothes, camping equipment, etc.).
  • Accepted applicants need to review the informational packet, and confirm their intent to participate in the designated project by submitting their Participation Agreement (provided by Red Feather) and volunteer fee.  After receiving your Participation Agreement and fee, Red Feather staff will send each volunteer a map to the project site and any additional information needed during your volunteer experience.
