Our unique program allows Red Feather members the opportunity to become part of a productive solution to housing and community development problems affecting American Indian nations. Housing shortages facing native communities are overwhelming. Red Feather is working to develop long-term solutions to this dire problem. Together, with American Indian nations, we have determined that the most effective approach is to educate tribes on straw bale construction methods-creating frameworks for long-term housing self-sufficiency. To accomplish this goal, we conduct straw bale construction seminars and clinics with the reservations. We also facilitate a limited number of home and community building projects that are organized in a manner that will educate and empower tribal members. Red Feather relies on the help of dedicated volunteers for each building project. However, we do not always have opportunities available for everyone who would like to participate. With increased member support, we will be able to initiate more builds and create more hands-on opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers. To get involved, please join Red Feather as a member. You can then fill out our online volunteer application. We will then inform you of all future projects and volunteer opportunities. |
