Sponsors
Red Feather is fortunate to receive support in so many ways: Donations from members, gifts of precious time and talent, donations of energy and passion by our reservation-based partners, and grants from foundations who commit their financial resources, advice and friendship to build a more sustainable world. While all of these are essential to the work that we do, our corporate partners play a unique role. The generous donation of their products and resources enable us to significantly reduce the cost of materials for a new home without compromising the quality and beauty of the finished home. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in 2003 the average cost of a new home on American Indian reservations was $125,000. On average, the involvement of our corporate partners reduces the cost of each home by over $24,000, making the approximate cost of a Red Feather home $50,000. In communities where average income levels are well below the national average, an unaffordable home will never be a sustainable one. Our corporate sponsors help ensure affordability and sustainability.

Whirlpool Corporation has exceeded every element we look for when selecting a product sponsor. This powerful contribution brings Red Feather’s partner families’ one giant step closer to realizing their dreams of owning a beautiful, well-built, energy-efficient and functional straw bale home of their own. In 2009, Whirlpool employees awarded Red Feather with a generous cash donation from their “Blue Jean Friday” fund-raiser. Whirlpool’s involvement with Red Feather is only one example of their generosity and commitment, which began a long time ago when they decided to donate a refrigerator and range to every Habitat for Humanity home built in North America. In 2005, they expanded their commitment by announcing plans to support every Habitat home built globally by 2011, through product donations, cash, or home sponsorship.
